Corter Morlin

Corter works at a junkyard, where he savages parts that could be made useful again. This gave him a keen eye and made him resourceful. After work, he and his friends like to smash random junk. Corter is well-mannered and quiet, but his friends are a loud and rowdy bunch. Corter sort of hides behind them. They’re his only family. He never knew his parents and he lives in the community home.

Reaped
Everybody goes to the square for the reaping. Corter stands with his friends. He’s nervous, but his friends aren’t. It just makes him more nervous because he feels out of place. Corter zones out, and it takes him a minute to realise the name has been called out. He looks around, but everyone’s looking at him. For the first time, all the attention is on him, not his friends. One of his friends gives him a nudge. There’s an apology, and he realises the name was his. Another friend gives him a pat on the back and he’s nudged again. He starts walking to the stage. As he faces the crowd he gets even more anxious. He tries to seem cool, calm and collected, but everyone knows he’s panicking anyway.
