Ashlynn grew up an orphan. She’d run away from the orphanage when she was very young and spent her time dodging the authorities because she never wanted to go back. She met her best friend Jake after being on the run for about a year. He told her he had left a bad situation and the two joined together to survive. She was able to steal by using her pretty face and survive off what she found. No one would suspect an innocent girl like her.

Ashlynn’s name was chosen and she was shocked. She’d managed to stay off the radar of the peacekeepers for long enough that she thought she was safe. She should’ve known there was no safety from the evil of the Capitol. She glanced over at Jake and he had a pained expression. She knew he would’ve volunteered for her if he could, but he couldn’t. This was her battle and she would never give up.
