Lacey and Olivia’s parents died due to illness when Lacey was 14, and Olivia 13. In their mother’s dying words, she had asked Lacey to be there for Olivia. When Olivia was two, she was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and socializing has been a struggle for her. Olivia was always tied to Lacey’s hip and she didn’t mind it. Lacey plans on going into teaching due to her experience with her special needs sister.
Lacey's Reaping
Volunteered
Lacey and her sister Olivia were getting ready for the reaping. It took awhile because not only Lacey had to get dressed but she had to help Olivia. The entire time Olivia was acting goofy and being all silly and it made it very difficult for Lacey.
“Come on Olivia, enough silly for now and after the reaping I promise we can be even goofier,” says Lacey.
“Pinky promise first,” shouts Olivia and continues to laugh. “I pinky promise.” They pinky swore, got ready and were out the door.
The entire time, they were dancing, skipping and singing all the way there to lighten the mood. They checked in and Lacey walked Olivia to her age group and Lacey stood behind her. The video was presented and it was time for the name drawing. Lacey was stunned as to what she was hearing. Olivia was in her own little world, not paying attention. She couldn’t imagine her sister in the games. Olivia couldn't handle it. The peacekeepers came to get her and they grabbed her by the arm.
Olivia screamed, “No,” and resisted, “I Volunteer!!” Lacey shouts and rips the peacekeepers hands off Olivia as she shouts those words. “And fucking let go of my sister! She does not like being touched!!” Olivia was still screaming and now digging her nails into Lacey’s arm.
“Shhh.. Liv I have to go. Please. I promise I’ll come back. I’ll come back and we can be silly again.” Lacey said calmingly and held out her pinky. Just as Olivia was about to wrap hers around Lacey, the world went dark. Apparently because it was taking too long, peacekeepers had hit Lacey over the head with their gun and knocked her out. When Lacey woke up, she noticed her forehead was bleeding and her arm was bleeding. She knew her arm was bleeding from Olivia and her nails but didn’t know what happened to her forehead. Then she realized that she was on the train. Lacey was so pissed that she never got to say goodbye to her sister.
