Sophia Rose
District 11
Sophia lives with her parents and her older sister Eva. Both her parents and her sister work in the fields of District 11. From a young age she would go with them to work and climb trees and help pick berries, and from the age of 7 she began to help with the work. Now, at the age of 12, she was smart, strong and knew her way around every orchard, with a vast knowledge of berries and peculiar foods. If she wasn't working in the fields she was filling her brain with knowledge, knowledge to help her in the arena. She was paranoid about going into the arena. Her name was only in there once but still, you could never be too safe.
Sophia's reaping

Sophia stood at the front with every other 12 year old waiting to see who would be reaped. She hated the games because they were wrong and barbaric in her eyes, but she knew if she was reaped, she would have to kill to survive. That thought sent a shiver down her spine. After a few minutes, the reaping began. She watched the shoes slowly click across the stage, watched the hand enter the bowl, be removed, and unfold the paper. The next thing she heard made her heart stop. Her sister’s name had been called. She was frozen on the spot. As her sister walked past, she came out of her daze and, without thinking, shouted, “I volunteer!” Gasps were heard. Her family was shocked; they knew of her hatred for the games, but family meant the world to her. Family is forever- it’s what she lived by.
She slowly walked to the stage and looked at the crowd, at her family, wondering what they were thinking. She just sacrificed herself for her sister, put her life on the line. Would they think of her as brave, or just stupid? She would never know. But all she knew was that she had her name, Sophia, meaning wisdom, and her wolf pendant- a reminder to be brave and stay strong. She held her head up high and strong, with the will and knowledge that would bring her home.
